This is the second edition of the International Conference on Symmetry, supported by the University of Zaragoza and the MDPI journal Symmetry. It is organized by the ICE members Prof. Sergei D. Odintsov and Prof. Emilio Elizalde. It will be held in Benasque, Spain, 1–7 September 2019.
We welcome scholars, engineers, students and enterprises to join this big event, and kindly ask you to block the date in your agenda. As symmetry is a fundamental phenomenon in nature and all sciences, the event aims to bring it into focus. It will promote the discussion and interchange of cutting edge knowledge and ideas of symmetry in a variety of subjects ranging from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, to Biology.
Symmetry 2019 follows the very successful conference "Symmetry 2017 - The First International Conference on Symmetry" held in
October 2017 in Barcelona, Spain.

The study of the formation and evolution of protoplanetary disks around young stars saw a tremendous boost by the advent of ALMA and the development of new capabilities in the infrared and radio telescopes, thanks to the huge combined improvement in sensitivity, angular resolution, and image fidelity. However, the role of magnetic fields in the formation and evolution of disks around young stars is still a poorly understood topic. Are protoplanetary disks and protostellar jets magnetized? Polarimetric observations are the primary means to obtain information regarding the magnetic fields. However, this technique can be hampered by other polarization mechanisms such as dust self-scattering, radiation alignment of aspherical grains or anisotropic resonant scattering of linear polarization of molecular lines. The main goal of this focused meeting is to bring together observers and theoreticians interested in the study of magnetic fields in protoplanetary disks and protostellar jets as well as polarization mechanisms to review the current state of the research and explore effective means to probe magnetic fields.

In this Focus Meeting we wish to gather the different communities working with magnetized models and polarimetric observations of the various stages and objects along the star formation sequence. The goal is to discuss how to compare constraints on magnetic fields at different evolutionary stages and physical scales such that we can establish a coherent view of their key role in the multi-scale process of star formation. Combining observational results and theoretical expectations coming from diverse techniques used in different communities is complex, so we especially welcome contributions that will emphasize how different measurements of the magnetic fields can be compared and interpreted into a coherent picture despite widely varying observing techniques, and the very different objects and physical scales that are involved all along the star formation sequence.
