Contract Offer for a GPS Engineer/Physicist


Contexto del Proyecto: Build a device to simulate the ground motions caused by transient geophysical signals such as earthquakes, volcanoes, and glacier flow, to assess the technique of high-rate GPS.
Horario: Full time

Requisitos y Descripción
Calificación: Bachelor degree in Engineering (Telecommunications, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical) or Physics
Experiencia: None necessary; familiarity with GPS and FPGA programming may help
Languages: Fluent in English


This offer is for a contract at the Institute for Space Sciences of the National Research Council (ICE/CSIC; www.ice.csic.es), Barcelona, Spain. The contract, to develop GPS instrumentation, is associated to a scientific research project funded by the Spanish National Program of the Ministry of Education and Science (MEC).

The responsabilities of the candidate include:
  • Design, build, and calibrate a three-dimensional GPS simulator
  • Work with other electronic and mechanical engineers involved in the project
  • Integrate the components developed by these engineers with own development
  • Find a suitable outdoor location to install and operate the simulator
  • Operate and mantain the simulator in such location
  • Perform GPS experiments with the simulator
  • Write instrument operating and user manuals
  • Help write proposals, reports, and disseminate scientific results
