Postdoc position: Gamma-ray observations, CTA survey preparation, and scientific interface for CTA
scheduler development

We are opening a position for a postdoc with software development interests at the Institute of Space Sciences (ICE-CSIC). The candidate will join a group developing control software for the operation and control of astronomical instrumentation and telescopes and strongly involved in the implementation and future exploitation of the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) observatory. The successful candidate will work on supporting the development of  the scheduling and the analysis software tools for the control infrastructure of CTA, while pursuing own interests in gamma-ray astronomy. One of the aims will be to help in the creation of suitable testing sets for possible target observations for CTA, and to analyze the completion and goodness of scheduling algorithms. The candidate will be able to access to observations done with the Large Size Telescope, in preparation for the CTA gamma-ray survey of the Galactic plane. Shifts in the LST site are likely to be connected with the task. The candidate should have good background with C++ and/or Python, and Fortran programming languages, and experience with gammapy and/or ctools will be valuable.

The Institute of Space Sciences (ICE) has been recently distinguished with the María de Maeztu Excellence Seal, as one of the top research centers in the country. It has 24 faculty members. Their areas of research vary from engineering applied to several space missions to fundamental physics and cosmology, from high-energy astronomy to theoretical astrophysics.

ICE is part of the "Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas" (CSIC, the Spanish National Research Council). CSIC is the largest public institution dedicated to research in Spain and the third largest in Europe. Members of ICE are affiliated too to the Catalan Institute of Space Studies (IEEC, Institut d'Estudis Espacials de Catalunya).

ICE strives to building a culturally diverse community of researchers, dedicated to contributing to an inclusive environment. We encourage, in particular, applications by women and members of minorities.

ICE is located in a modern building on the Campus of the Universidad Autònoma de Barcelona in Bellaterra, just outside Barcelona. The Campus is well served by public transportation (railways and buses), and a variety of accommodation options can be found both in Barcelona city center and in the smaller towns close to the University Campus (Cerdanyola, Sabadell, Terrassa, Sant Cugat, Sant Quirze, Rubí, and others).
